If I needed a book to reassure me that I’m doing the right thing writing #historicalfiction set in the #GreatWar then this is that book. Six weeks was how long a junior officer on the frontline of #WW1 could expect to survive before being killed or wounded. They were so young! They played silly games, shot rats with their revolvers, wrote long letters home, listened to nightingales in No Man’s Land “and they prayed and prayed they might be brave”. By looking after their men they made the lives of the men in the trenches bearable. Well researched, readable, unsentimental.#amreading #amwriting #bookstagram #amresearchingformynovel
